Welfare & Relief Programme

In keeping the motto of Ramakrishna order "Serving God in poor and helpless" Ramakrishna Mission has undertaken the following relief and welfare activities during the reporting years 2007-2008 The mission conducted the flood relief work at Khanakul, Hooghly from 8th August to 2nd September. The total expenditure incurred for the relief work at Khanakul comes to Rs.4,50,000/- approximately as per details mentioned in the following distribution charts.


The areas covered during the relief work are Kamarpukur area, Markhona area, Jagatpur area, Notibput area, Harikota area, Dhanyagiri area, Chandrapur area and Arambagh area. The total families in the operation are 1300.


Pecuniary help in terms of garments, saris blankets, saris and dhotis had been given to the needy & poor of the locality as well its neighboring areas. More than 142 poor and meritorious students have been given educational aid in terms of cash and booking worth Rs 2.4 lacs during the reporting 2007-20008.


Beside cloths distribution to the local poor people, many poor villagers belonging to the backward classes are provided with mid day meal in the Ashrama dining hall from time to time.


Rehabilitation Programme

The main aim of the prokalpo was to ameliorate poverty in ten pockets of a few selected areas identified and subsequently assistance to poor people to overcome the huddles by means of proper trainings and opportunities. The prokalpa consists of the following aspects:-

  • Training on improved method of quality Vermicompost production: The above said training programme was initiated w.e.f June 18th 2012 with 50 trainees. After completion of theoretical training, the trainees were also trained on practical aspect i.e. how to prepare quality food of earthworms, promising strain of earthworm, congenial environment for earthworm, earthworm doses, processing and method of collection of vermi wash / vermi bed wash and quality vermicompost. During training period, the trainees produced 35.33 M.T in four spells and used in agricultural crops. The trainees, at present, after completion of training are producing vermicompost at their own lebel in a large / small scale as per their available infrastructural facilities and was used in agriculture.

  • Training on modern method of mass scale production of edible mushroom : The above said training programme was initiated w.e.f August 20th 2012 with same 50 trainees of vermicompost. After theoretical background information in training classes, practical demonstration was conducted simultaneously on improved method of cultivation of mushroom specially Oister, In 1st and 2nd demonstration classes, 40 & amp; 50 balls were cultivated, 18.09 k.g & 61.47 k.g Oister mashroom was produced and Rs.1448.00 and Rs. 4917.00 was received respectively as sales proceeds, with Rs.80.00 per k.g selling rate. After deduction of actual expenditure, Rs. 5352.00 was distributed among active 46 trainees. Therefore four more demonstration classes were conducted at trainees’ home level in newly built prakalpa aided low cost ideal mushroom cultivation house. A total number of 170, 170, 215 and 219 balls were cultivated by the total trainees individually and 135.57kg, 68kg, 116.1kg, and 199.55kg of oyster mushroom was produced and about Rs.13557.00, Rs.8160.00, Rs. 11600.00 and Rs.19955.00 was received respectively as sales proceeds selling@Rs.100.00/kg.
